Presentation of the Habitat House
to the Pottengers
THE DREAM HAS COME TRUE!
When the Arizona Catholic Daughters started planning to someday build a Habitat for Humanity house, Hurumi and David Pottenger were dreaming of someday having a home of their own to raise their family. They had 4 small children and two more would join the family in the years to come. None of us knew that the future would bring us
together. David Pottenger passed away
2 years ago leaving Hurumi to continue
the dream for her and the 6 children.
For the past 9 months many working
hands have joined to build a beautiful
house for the Pottenger’s. On Saturday
November 20 close to 200 people
gathered in front of the house on
Hester St. in Marana to celebrate
the dedication of “our” house.
Then with gratitude and humility
Hurumi cut the ribbon and unlocked
the door to her home. Her sister-in-
law is standing watching her cut the
ribbon.
As Catholic Daughters from around
the state toured the house each hung
a Christmas ornaments on the tree.
The dedication was very impressive and over whelming for the family. It was a proud day for the Arizona Catholic Daughters to have built this dream for the Pottenger’s.
Thanksgiving and Christmas will be very
special this year for them. We were
privileged to have with us our CDofA
National Board, Joann Tomassi,
Ann Nelson, Shirley Segfried,
Letty Calvetti and Helene Shepard and
Past National Regent Libby Ramirez, our
Past National Director Duchess Collins and
her husband Jim.
Following the dedication we served a
Thanksgiving dinner to over 160 people.
With a huge Thank You to Audrey Miller,
the chairmen for the dinner, and all the
volunteers that helped to prepare and serve
the food. All went very smooth and
was enjoyed by all.
Photograph on the right was taken in
the front yard of the House.
